Microwave Baked Potato Recipe

  • 1 medium-sized potato
  • Olive oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Butter (optional)


  1. Wash the potato thoroughly under running water and pat it completely dry.
  2. Pierce the potato 3 to 4 times with a fork. This allows steam to escape, preventing the potato from exploding in the microwave.
  3. Place the potato on a microwave-safe plate.
  4. Rub the potato all over with a little olive oil, then generously sprinkle it with salt and pepper.
  5. Microwave the potato on full power for 5 minutes.
  6. Flip the potato over and microwave for an additional 5 minutes, or until the potato is soft and fully cooked.
  7. Remove the potato from the microwave, being careful as it will be hot.
  8. Cut the potato in half lengthwise and season with more salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Fluff the inside of the potato with a fork, add butter if desired, and serve hot.
