I’ve been looking up sugar-free cakes and other desserts for his first birthday, with a little help from my friend Mandi. It turns out that there are lots of recipes for sugar-free cakes. There are fewer for naturally sweetened desserts (no “fake sugar”). And trying to find a lactose-free frosting further complicates matters.
This healthy smash cake is made with NO ADDED SUGAR and is even gluten, egg, and dairy free. This will make the perfect healthy first birthday cake for your baby! Mash the bananas and mix in the applesauce. Melt coconut oil and add this and vanilla to the banana mixture.
How to make Baby’s 1st Birthday Cake Make the date puree first by soaking the dates in boiling water for 15 minutes, then blending them with a stick blender. In a mixing bowl, add the self raising flour, plain wholemeal flour, baking powder and cinnamon. In another bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, eggs and milk.
Here are links to ten of the recipes for sugar-free cakes and desserts I was able to find. A couple of them have dairy (cream cheese is a popular choice for a sugar-free frosting that still looks good). All of them are relatively healthy, sweetened by fruit or honey rather than sugar.
