Just a boxed cake mix, frosting, 3 other ingredients & bake. Done & done! Have you ever heard of Louisiana Stranger Cake? Me either (well, up until this recipe)!
Louis Gooey Butter Cake is a yeast bread topped with the namesake ‘gooey’ layer. Walk away from the cake mix and try this legacy treat instead! I first posted this recipe several years ago but it was lost in that dark hole called ‘Archives’ and seen by few.
Mix cake mix, melted butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and 2 eggs with a spoon. Pat into a 9×13-inch pan. Mix cream cheese, remaining 2 eggs, and remaining 1 teaspoon vanilla with an electric mixer. Slowly beat in confectioner’s sugar. Pour over cake layer.
This delicious Louisiana crunch cake more than qualifies. Because of the shape and exposure to heat, it can be easy to over bake this kind of cake. But this recipe uses both sour cream and buttermilk for an ultra-moist crumb.
