Buttercream Icing was the basis for a cake decorating lesson. Actually, it was my final exam in the cake decorating class I’ve been taking. We were to bake two layers, stack and frost them before class. We could make flowers ahead of time and let them dry. In class we had to write a word on the cake and do the border, then complete the cake.
Here’s how to write on a cake so you can create stunning desserts for special occasions. To get started on the right foot, brush up on how to frost a cake the easy and elegant way. For best results, we recommend using a piping bag and tip to write on your cake.
Ingredients 1 c. shortening, butter flavored 1 c. butter 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract 1/2 tsp. almond extract 7 1/2 c. powdered sugar 1/3 c. heavy whipping cream gel or paste icing dyes Instructions In a large bowl, beat the shortening and butter until smooth and fluffy.
This makes quite a bit of buttercream, around 6 cups. It should be enough for the project you are talking about.
