Milhojas translates to “thousand leaves cake”. It is basically puff pastry layers filled with pastry cream and topped with dulce de leche or arequipe. The other night I was craving an arequipe dessert.
Claire Clarke’s mil hojas recipe is a great celebration bake for those who shy away from traditional sponge cakes. A Chilean version of mille-feuille, this stunning creation boasts decadent swathes of dulce de leche and pastry cream between crisp puff pastry layers.
You can omit them, the cake will be almost the same. If you worry about being too sweet because of the dulce de leche, add some layers of raspberry or plum jam. Reply Liliana March 3, 2018 at 3:53 pm
