Red Velvet Waffles with Cream Cheese Syrup – Use a red velvet cake mix to prepare the waffles. For the syrup, mix 1/4 cup softened cream cheese with 1/4 cup powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1/4 cup milk.
Add the eggs, cake mix, milk, and oil to the bowl of a stand mixer and beat on medium for 30 seconds, then high for one minute until combined. Spray your hot waffle iron with nonstick cooking spray and measure the cake mix waffle batter for your waffle maker.
Preheat waffle iron. Whisk together cake mix, eggs and milk until smooth. Mix in chocolate chips. Pour batter on waffle iron and cook per instructions. Scoop both cans of frosting into a bowl. Crush ½ cup of raspberries, or use your favourite raspberry jam, and mix into frosting.
Red velvet is traditionally chocolatey and we took that history to heart. These waffles have both bittersweet chocolate chips and dark cocoa to make sure the chocolate really shines through. There aren’t a lot of ways to replace the red food coloring, but you can leave it out if the red color is not important to you.
