A simple but so flavorful German apple crumble cake that’s topped with the most delicious cookie-like streusel. Apple Streusel Sheet Cake is made with fresh apple chunks and topped with crunchy German streusel. German streusel is different from an American crumb topping. It’s more cookie-like on top and soft on the bottom where it meets the cake.
This Apple Sheet cake makes a wonderful treat. -In medium bowl stir together 2 cups flour, 1/2 cup sugar, and baking powder. Cut in butter with a pastry cutter, until looks like wet sand. Stir in beaten egg with fork. Dump about 2/3 of the dough into the baking pan. Press evenly and firmly into pan.
Make the streusel topping: Cut butter into flour and sugar using a pastry cutter until it resembles coarse crumbs. Squeeze handfuls together to create larger clumps, then sprinkle the streusel over the apple filling. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes until lightly golden brown on top and the apples are soft in the middle.
Stir in walnuts and apple. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt for cake in a bowl. Beat white sugar and butter together in a large bowl with an electric mixer until creamy. Add dry ingredients. Mix in milk, egg, and vanilla extract.
