Add a little bit of vegetable oil in a frying pan on medium-high heat, place the green onion cake in the pan, and let it fry until the side is golden brown. Then flip it and repeat until the other side is golden brown. For future reference, when we say golden brown, this is the colour that we mean.
Green Onion Cake is a pancake type of unleavened flatbread that has been folded over several times. It is then fried in oil and mixed with a generous helping of scallions or chives. Unlike Western pancakes, it is made from dough instead of batter.
Do not slice the onions in the usual manner. These must be sliced lengthwise, then minced, to hold the best texture, shape and flavour for the homemade green onion cakes. I spied that little long piece of onion stalk, but it was actually cut and broke apart when sprinkling onion over the dough.
Sprinkle each round evenly with 1/4 tsp table salt, followed by about 1 TB green onions evenly over the surface of each. Roll each round tightly up like a jelly roll (think taquito.) Then take one end and roll it up to the other side into a wheel (think cinnamon bun.)
